About Me
Art has always been a primary activity for me that has shaped my identity and kept me connected to myself throughout my life. I grew up in San Rafael and grateful to live here now (we have the best weather). My career has been in the human services field and I earned my MPS in Art Therapy and Creativity Development at Pratt Institute in 2000. I have participated in some art shows and curated 4 of my own I have used my art work via donating to several fundraisers or used to raise funds myself for the following organizations including Sea Shepherd, Spectrum Surf, Autistry Studios, WIRES, and Planned Parenthood. Like most people, I love nature, dogs, swimming, and the beauty of California. The wires are incredibly challenging to capture in 2-D.
About My Work
I’ve been working in wire since 1995 thanks to a visiting sculpture professor’s inspirational demo my last quarter at UO (thank you cool Italian professor lady!) I set out to make a topiary and work evolved from there. I use pliers, copper wire and also steel annealed wire which I paint to prevent rust. In 2022 my work was taking the moment to shout sharks are sentient beings. I started painting dogs soon after starting out with wire. Drawing will always be a source for diving into the creative process. Dogs, sharks, whales, made up people, seem to be my subject matter as they continue to entertain and fascinate me. I really just enjoy art making, creating something I like or just fulfilling the need to create that thing in my head!I like keeping art making for myself, having the creative control and freedom to be in my inner world. I have not articulated any intellectual significance beyond my hope the viewer finds joy and maybe some humor in my work.
