About Me
I am someone who cares and carries people. As doctor, mother, community advocate, I am called to love people’s deepest contradictions and accompany them through joyous and difficult transitions. Making art has been how I digest and process what I take on. My practice began when my kids were little, making collages from flotsam and jetsam of everyday life. I grew up surrounded by quilts and always wanted to work with textiles. As life became more spacious, I found my way to stitching feelings and stories into fabric.
About My Work
The first response to my work is "it's cute.” Mismatched textiles, childlike techniques, and dollar-store ephemera are inviting and I want that. But like the people we are, the work that I do, nothing is as straight forward as it seems. Good people do bad things, bad things happen to good people. Art can be crafty, embellished and utilitarian, abundant and purposeful, cute, creepy and compelling. Creating is less about perfection than entering into relationship with salvaged and repurposed materials, sitting with the inevitability of unwanted things. The process quiets my mind, often starts one place and brings me somewhere unexpected
